I can’t say I lack it One piece content in my life right now, as I’m currently in the middle of watching the Punk Hazard arc of the anime, which is now available to stream with a Netflix subscription. However, I’m still eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the live-action One piece series, as this drew me back to the world created by Eiichrio Oda after reading some of the manga in my high school years. Although an official release date isn’t technically among the things we know One piece season 2it looks likely that it will be added to the list of Netflix release dates for 2025.
Luckily, the second half of 2024 brought a lot of news about this next batch of episodes, from exactly which arcs will be adapted in Season 2 to the casting of new characters and confirmation of those returning. But assuming the signs point to it One piece Season 2 debuting on the 2025 TV schedule is right, there are three major castings that have yet to be announced that I hope will appear sooner rather than later. And before I continue, no, I’m not talking about Luffy’s brother Ace, because it seems like Xolo Maridueña was cast in that role.
Warning: One piece manga/anime SPOILERS are ahead, so if you’re a fan of the live-action show and want to go into season 2 as fresh as possible, proceed with caution.
Ax
Unlike the other two characters mentioned in this feature, we know for sure that Chopper will make an appearance One piece Season 2. I would have been shocked if he hadn’t thought about the fact that he becomes one of the most important characters in the franchise when he joins the Straw Hat Pirates. But we haven’t been worried about that for months, because last September we got our first look at Chopper and his signature pink hat.
That said, we’re still in the dark about who’s playing Chopper, and honestly, I think we could be talking about multiple actors. The character in his human/reindeer hybrid form looks like it will be realized via full CGI, so that would only require someone to voice him for scenes when he is like this. Like the live action One piece following in the anime’s footsteps, that same voice would be used when Chopper is in his reindeer or large human forms. However, there have also been rumors that a human actor will voice Chopper when he is in his full human form, which makes me wonder if that actor’s deeper voice would be used instead when Chopper is huge.
I’ve never been good at fan casting and I don’t intend to talk about this. However, I will say that it would be nice if Brina Palencia, who voices Chopper in Funimation’s English dub, also voices him in Netflix’s One piecejust as Colleen O’Shaughnessey voices Tails in both films Sonic the hedgehog video games and movies. I want to know if Palencia’s Chopper voice, taken from a more realistic version of the character, results in something as cute as what we get in animation.
Mr 2
One of the highest ranking members of the Baroque Works crime syndicate is Mr. 2, real name Bon Clay. In addition to gaining the ability to impersonate anyone he touches after eating the Clone Clone Fruit, Clay is also a powerhouse martial artist thanks to his training in Ballet Kempo. Although they started out as a villain doing the bidding of the Baroque Factory’s leader, Mr. 0, aka Crocodile, by the end of the Alabasta arc they became an ally of the Straw Hats and were a huge help to Luffy during the Impel Down arc.
Of course, everyone who knows Mr. 2 already knows that this is a character with problematic representation, namely with the way their gender fluidity was played as a joke. That makes me wonder if Netflix is One piece could just leave them out of the story entirely, instead of walking the tightrope of portraying him in a way that doesn’t make fun of their identities but still provides some comic relief. If I were a gambler, I think Mr. 2 will still be included in the live-action adaptation. Their ability to disguise plays a role in Crocodile’s plans in the main Alabasta arc, which will be covered in Season 3, plus their integral part of the time when Luffy goes through his Impel Down journey. That said, I won’t be surprised if the character’s flamboyance is way toned down.
Mr. 8
Miss Wednesday and Mr. 8 were two of the first members of Barok Works to meet the Straw Hats, and we know the former will be played by Charithra Chandran in the Netflix show. However, not long after meeting them, it was revealed that these two were actually spies from the Kingdom of Alabasta, with Miss Wednesday being Princess Nefertari Vivi and Mr. 8 being Igaram, Captain of the Alabasta Royal Guard. Although it initially appeared that Igaram was killed during his attempt to lead his pursuers from the Baroque Works away from Vivi, who had escaped with the Straw Hats, it was later revealed that he had survived.
I see the one from Netflix One piece deal with Mr. 8 in two ways. First of all, he’s just not included in the show at all, and Vivi would have simply gone undercover in Barok Works alone. Second, we’ll see someone play Ingram, but when the time comes to blow him up, he’ll stay dead. This is the same as what happened to Merry in season 1, and it’s not like Ingaram’s post-Whiskey Peak moments are absolutely crucial to the plot. Well, he disguised himself as Vivi at the end of the Alabasta arc when she secretly went to say goodbye to the Straw Hats, but something tells me that wouldn’t work in the live-action version.
Once one of the three characters above is finally released One piecewe’ll let you know. CinemaBlend will also air the official season 2 premiere when it’s announced, but for now you can keep yourself entertained by checking out the other best shows on Netflix.
